About Me

I am an academic and Doctor of Philosophy candidate at the Bundaberg Campus within the School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Social Sciences. In addition to my academic role, I continue practicing as a Registered Nurse in the Critical Care setting, including ICU and ED, with a foundational background in Perianaesthesia and ICU. My research interests focus on pedagogy and andragogy, perioperative and critical care nursing, and governance.

General

Background

Originally from the Netherlands, I completed most of my schooling in Australia and graduated with a Bachelor of Nursing from CQUniversity. As a proud alumnus and staff member, I am committed to making a meaningful impact on our students' learning experiences. My clinical journey began in the Intensive Care Unit as a graduate, followed by a transition to the Perioperative Department, where I specialised in Perianaesthesia. I continue to practice in Critical Care to maintain clinical relevance, bringing this experience into the classroom.

Universities Studied At

I completed my Bachelor of Nursing with Distinction and a Certificate of Engaged Leadership from CQUniversity in 2016. I then earned a Master of Clinical Nursing (Anaesthesia & Recovery Room) from the University of Tasmania in 2020. In 2022, I completed a Graduate Certificate in Tertiary & Adult Education from CQUniversity and am now undertaking my PhD with the same institution. I have also participated in the Australian College of Nursing’s Emerging Nurse Leader program and their Leaders Mindset program. Additionally, I have completed various single-credit units (MOOCs) through institutions such as Monash, Harvard, the University of Tokyo, MIT, and Delft University of Technology.

Universities Worked At

I began my academic career as an Academic Casual, marking assessments and teaching at Residential Schools. I later secured a continuing role as an Associate Lecturer and was subsequently promoted to Lecturer. Over time, I have held various portfolios, including Third Year Bachelor of Nursing Coordinator and Academic Liaison Officer for the Wide Bay Burnett region. I am currently undertaking higher duties as an Assistant Head of Course for the Bachelor of Nursing. Additionally, I am an Adjunct Lecturer with the University of Queensland - Rural Clinical School and have also taught briefly at the University of St La Salle in the Philippines.
