Dr Gudimetla obtained his Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) from Mysore University, India and migrated to Australia in 1994. He completed his Master of Engineering Management (Engineering Science) and PhD (Advanced Manufacturing) from QUT, Brisbane. This was followed by a six-year stint as a postdoctoral researcher in Medical Engineering at QUT. Dr Gudimetla has worked at the interface of Mechanical, Medical and Manufacturing Engineering for over 2 decades and has published in high impact journals including Connective Tissue Research, Clinical Biomechanics, Journal of Advanced Materials Research etc.
Dr Gudimetla is currently a Senior lecturer in Mechanical Engineering on the Bundaberg campus. He is also the Campus Leader (Bundaberg & Gladstone) and Discipline Leader of Mechanical Engineering. He is an internationally reputed researcher and lecturer, having delivered undergraduate and postgraduate lectures, seminars and workshops in Australia, Singapore, Thailand and India. Dr Gudimetla has executed over 35 projects for companies in SE Queensland including Boeing Australia, Australian Aerospace, Caterpillar, ABB, Santos, BHP, The Australian Defense Force Academy, Rover Australia, Ford Australia, etc.
Dr Gudimetla focuses on core mechanical design research involving stress analysis, finite element analysis and optimization, and interdisciplinary research in the areas of rehabilitation engineering and assistive technologies. He is the recipient of an ARC Linkage grant (2010), an ALTC Grant (2010), an Advanced Queensland Knowledge Transfer Partnership Grant (2016) among several others. He has been part of research teams that have secured over $1.5 million in extramular funding over the last 2 decades.
Dr Gudimetla is a reviewer for several reputed journal including MIT's Journal of the Mechanical Behaviour of Biomedical Materials, the Australian Journal of Mechanical Engineering,Journal of Achievements in Materials & Manufacturing Engineering (Poland), International Journal of Materials Processing Technology, International Journal of Machine Tool and Manufacture etc.
Dr Gudimetla's professional affiliations include Engineers Australia, American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Society of Manufacturing Engineering (SME). He is a board member of the Global Congress on Manufacturing & Management (GCMM).
