My background consists of a varied range of experiences. I grew up in a medium sized farming and earth-moving family business where I learnt to operate various pieces of plant and equipment, as well as various agricultural activities. I maintained close contact with the business while I was undertaking other vocations.  I was also a board member of this business and chairman for some time.  I am a qualified mining and engineering surveyor which saw me undertake some major road and construction projects in South Australia.  I then moved into the VET sector as a survey technician and casual lecturer in surveying.  I then moved into sales of surveying equipment, holding the position of SA/NT State Manager. I then returned to the VET sector as a lecturer in surveying.  I then became an Inspector with the South Australian OHS regulator, working my up to Team Leader/Acting Manager of the Investigations unit.  I have undertaken many investigations of workplace accidents where I was responsible for collecting evidence and preparing briefs of evidence for the Magistrates & Coroner's courts.  I have also held a position on a board of a a not-for-profit RTO.
